The best thing about hobbies is that you don't have to be good at them, you just have to like doing them.
I have a few hobbies and they are all very important to me because when I spend time on my hobbies I fill my soul with good vibes, which I think we could all do more of, and I'm able to properly switch off and relax.
When we spend time doing things we love it fills us with positive energy and raises our vibration.
Positive energy and a high vibration attract good things into your life.
My favourite hobbies in no particular order…
Reading. I have been an avid reader since I was very young. There really is nothing I find more relaxing. I'll read just about anything with the exception of sci fi which I am not a fan of.
Knitting. I am not a particularly good knitter. I still don't know how to fix a dropped stitch without unpicking rows and rows of work, and I only know two stitches but I can knit as perfectly acceptable beanie and a decent scarf. I find knitting very relaxing, and it's a great distraction from niggles and worries.
Cycling. Riding my bike through the park, and alongside the river is one of my greatest simple pleasures.
The Sun (or wind, or rain) on my face, nothing to do except pedal. Just me, my bike and the path. Riding through the park grounds me, and riding by the river soothes my soul.
Cooking. I try to make the majority of my meals from scratch. Chopping, mixing, stirring, the magic of putting a bunch of things together to make something delicious, all while singing along to a good playlist. Perfect!
Nintendo switch. I'm not what you would call a big gamer. But I enjoy the Pokemon games. I've had them all since the first very one came out, so as well as being a good way to relax they provide a big dose of cosy nostalgia. I also love Animal crossing. I play Animal crossing new horizons and Animal crossing paradise planning. It's extremely satisfying, pottering around in my own time tending to and designing my island. Chatting to my residents and then building a perfect holiday home for someone. I would highly recommend Animal crossing for top relaxation!
Pokemon Go. As I mentioned above I've been playing the Pokemon games since the first one came out. Back then I would help my children to train and level up their Pokemon, and it grew into a shared life long love. I'm probably far too old to enjoy Pokemon Go but I have played since day one, and still love it.
Napping. Who doesn't love a good nap. If I can I will.
Another hobby that I have grown to love over the past few years is journaling and it's a hobby that really does do wonders for my mental health.
Using prompts or free writing helps me to process my thoughts and feelings, and moving my thoughts from my mind to my journal always feels like a weight has lifted.
Gratitude journaling always reminds me that even in difficult times there are still good things to be thankful for, and I really need that reminder sometimes.
Another good reason for gratitude journaling is that the universe gives you more of what you're grateful.
I try to express gratitude as often and as wholeheartedly as I can.
